Kampot & Kep

The quite riverside town of Kampot is the provincial capital, located a few miles away from the Gulf of Thailand. The region is know for it’s favorible climate and famous pepper. Old colonial buildings line the streets in various stages of decay or renovation depending on who you talk to. High above the town the old French church in the hill fort  is battle scarred, now contains a Buddhist shrine.

Kep, a few miles south along the coast, was a thriving resort town from the early 1900s until 1960’s. The remaining villas are romantic shells, stripped during the Khmer Rouge era.
